About

This special event supports Every Mother Counts and its mission to end preventable maternal mortality and ensure all women have access to quality, respectful, and equitable maternity care.

In 2017, a few friends and family members celebrated Mother's Day by swimming a 12-hour relay at the Greenwich YMCA to support EMC. Next year, they decided to share the fun and organize it as an annual event to provide other swimmers the opportunity to swim with a purpose and to raise awareness of maternal health care issues in the United States and around the globe.

Swimmers of all abilities can register. Swimming teams of up to 12 swimmers can join the 24-hour challenge, with a trophy awarded for the longest cumulative distance swum over 24 hours: a team can reserve a lane and have two swimmers in the pool over 12 hours, or two swim practices for six swimmers over 2 hours.
